WHY LANGUAGE CAPTURE AND POLITICAL CORRECTNESS DISCRIMINATE AGAINST US ALL AND DAMAGE DEMOCRACY

Writer's picture: Dr Chan AbrahamDr Chan Abraham

A reader on Linked In proffered a comment, somewhat passive-aggressively, that a post titled “Starmer & Co: Blind Leading The Blind Behind Blair's Behind”  [1] might offend.  He had in mind sight impaired people.  He was swiftly assured, and this would be verified by all who know the author, that no offence is, nor could be, intended, and should not be inferred by the post.

The post was itself a brief comment on another writer’s piece that had stated, “Years of financial mismanagement have left us broke. So we have sold off assets to China in a desperate bid to claw back cash. Recent events in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific don’t just make that policy look naive but self-destructive.  Successive prime ministers have allowed Chinese Communist Party-linked entities into some of the most sensitive corners of our economy – and now there’s no feasible way of getting them out.”  [2]

“STARMER & CO: BLIND LEADING THE BLIND BEHIND BLAIR'S BEHIND”

Here is the post:

A once-proud nation now, blindly, reaches out a begging bowl to another still-proud-and-ever-shrewd one. Starmer, Milliband and the rest of this minority Labour government continue to display levels of ineptitude higher than any predecessor.

Their cognitively dissonant policies include a precipitous dash toward the NetZero precipice, with untold calamity for The British People, while procuring non-recyclable, environmentally-degrading and wild-life-destroying solar panels and wind turbines from China, who manufacture these "green renewables" from their fossil-fuel-burning plants, which they are building at a rapid rate: two new plants each day.

Starmer and his apparatchiks truly are the blind leading the blind behind Blair's behind.

Clearly, it is critical of politicians and their policies, especially of the 2025 Labour government, of the unaffordability and self-contradictory so-called “climate change” and NetZero policies.

While it may have offended the sensitivities of readers who support any of the foregoing, it was disingenuous to pick on the title of the post, claiming the indefensible argument of political correctness, rather than engage in challenging the content of the post.

One reader queried the assertion that Starmer leads a “minority Labour government” to which the facts were supplied – namely that a mere 20 per cent of British People voted for Labour [3](and many bitterly regret it).

However, none rose up to offer arguments in support of NetZero, the destructive nature of wind turbines and solar panels, the fact they cannot be recycled or the fact that Britain pays Chine to build two fossil-fuel burning plants to produce these “green” energy producers.

No defence could be offered for Labour’s “cognitively dissonant [NetZero] policies.”  However, the fact that political correctness was the weapon of choice against the post calls for a response.  This was promised and gave rise to this article.

“WOKE” UNDER SCRUTINY AS AMERICA  LEADS ON THE WORLD STAGE

When intelligent people question the use of an idiom from antiquity it’s necessary to scrutinise the matter further.  Too often accusations are brought against people on the use of language and these should not go unchallenged.

This is especially important following the landslide election of President Donald J. Trump.  The US Election 2024 revealed that an overwhelming majority of Americans are tired of the old “woke” ways that flourished under the Biden-Obama administration.  Their actions weakened the US and brought it into worldwide disrepute and ridicule.

Trump.  The US Election 2024 revealed that an overwhelming majority of Americans are tired of the old “woke” ways that flourished under the Biden-Obama administration.  Their actions weakened the US and brought it into worldwide disrepute and ridicule.

Jokes flourished about Biden’s America being as incapable as he was publicly seen to be.  Such as the one about the CCP not needing to fire shot in any military engagement with the US; all they would need to do was use the wrong pronoun with catastrophic results for their opponents whose feelings would be so hurt that there would be no resistance offered.

As sure as night follows day: where America leads, Britain will follow.  First Biden; now President Trump, so we need to sit up and take notice.

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS, LANGUAGE CAPTURE AND PRESCRIBED SPEECH

The use of familiar terms and idioms is part of language, literature, culture and customs.  This is not only in the Anglosphere; it is universal. It is insulting, colonialist and frankly oppressive that Western sensitivities should presume to demand that language be changed to suit their particular preferences.

The world has moved on and we cannot continue to support the capture of language that began in the 1980s with “political correctness” and has morphed into “prescribed speech”.  The shrill voices of those calling for such is sharply in contradiction to the reality of the world into which they were born, and that has given them opportunity to hold their particular views.  That’s Western Democracy, of which Free Speech is the cornerstone.

SOURCE OF BRITAIN’S COMMITMENT TO FREEDOM AND “TOLERANCE”

Most people with common sense, a reasonable level of intelligence and education should know that Britain’s heritage, our laws and justice system, our generally tolerant attitude, commitment to freedom, human rights and fairness, with much of our literature and culture springs from a single source: The Holy Bible and its influence over nearly two millennia that has moulded a broadly and culturally Christian Britain.

It is vital to note, for many may overlook this, that The Bible is not a Western but a Middle Eastern text.  With this in mind, modern critics, who appear mainly on the ideological “Left” should pause for thought and be extremely cautious with their assumptions and assertions.

The words in the post heading “…Blind Leading The Blind…”  are drawn from a familiar English idiom that is not originally English, but arises from Matthew 15:13-14.  This is a record of a discourse by a young Jewish Rabbi, Jesus of Nazareth, a historically validated figure who was teaching in the early part of the 1st century AD in the region that later came to be known as “Palestine”.

Here’s the text that gave the world the blind leading the blind and, in reading it, we should remind ourselves that it is not a Western concept:

Jesus replied, “Every plant not planted by my heavenly Father will be uprooted, so ignore them. They are blind guides leading the blind, and if one blind person guides another, they will both fall into a ditch.”

The picture here is of two people without sight, being at risk from unseen danger.

Jesus was not saying this to offend or ridicule. He was stating a matter of fact.

Much of ancient maxims, parables and poetry is drawn from observable reality.  The arrogance of moderns, especially in the West, is baffling.  We should be most respectful before attempting to critique those who have gone before.  Without their wisdom and knowledge of the world, we would not be living today.

CONTEXT OF “BLIND LEADING THE BLIND”

In context, Jesus was speaking to the politician-religious leaders of his day, who were one and the same. They were the ruling class.  They insisted on forms of political correctness, adherence to a legal code that they devised, punished others for breaching but invariably failed to observe it fully in its spirit, if not actually its letter. As far as they were concerned, it was their way only; failure to comply would have grave consequences.  Their intolerance was severe.

As an example, a woman was “caught in adultery” [4] and they came to the young Rabbi, Jesus, demanding that she be executed according to their custom (throwing stones and crushing her with large rocks). They were testing him.  Would he comply?

Jesus’ response was mysterious and unsettling for them: he stooped and wrote in the dust, saying that the first person to throw a stone should be one who was guiltless of any wrongdoing.  They sidled away and he pronounced his forgiveness, exhorting her to live a new, restored and guilt-free life.

MINORITY OPPRESSING MAJORITY: THEN AS TODAY

The demands for compliance with strict requirements, devised by a minority, and used to oppress and control the majority, is not dissimilar to the demands of some in Britain today, insisting that their way of using language must be followed; seeking to revise not only language but history itself.

“Critical Race Theory” is grounded in this flawed and fundamentally bigoted worldview.  Its proponents, as with the anti-freedom people of Jesus’ day, adopt a patronising and condescending approach to the majority around them.  Yet, despite the majority disagreeing, because of the imbalance of power-relationships, the controlling minority actively disempowers the majority from voicing dissent, using censorship, deplatforming, removal from employment, ‘non-crime-hate-incidents’ and physical attacks.

ound them.  Yet, despite the majority disagreeing, because of the imbalance of power-relationships, the controlling minority actively disempowers the majority from voicing dissent, using censorship, deplatforming, removal from employment, ‘non-crime-hate-incidents’ and physical attacks.

This has been witnessed throughout the 20th century, as socialism rises aggressively to dominate, control and oppress, most visibly in Communist USSR and Chine and in 1930’s Germany.  In Britain and Europe there has been a “long march through the institutions”, not least the BBC, Civil Service, NHS and NGOs.  The insidious effects of cultural Marxism now are apparent, with evidence of those appalling times being repeated, visible through various human rights abuses, jailing of political opponents, chilling of free speech and weaponising the police and justice systems.

In today’s context, the post title, “Starmer & Co: Blind Leading The Blind Behind Blair's Behind” is more than an observation: it is a statement of fact.

NO CONSULTATION WITH, NOR MANDATE FROM THE BRITISH PEOPLE

Starmer and his companions have been reeling from internal and external crises, exposures of corruption, failures in international relations with the US, outright lies, deliberate, calculated deception of The British People, conflicts of interest, and abject failures of governance, not least in the destruction of the UK economy with the foolish, unscientific and unaffordable dash to Net Zero.

Not a single one of their actions is based on consultation with The British People.  None was  requested, nor approved, by us.

Thus they are “blind” to reality and lead each other down a road to calamity. They follow “behind Blair’s behind”, and already have fallen “into a ditch”.

A GOVERNMENT IN DECLINE AND DENIAL: BLIND TO THE PEOPLE

The British People know this and the evidence is in the Starmer’s and Labou’s (un)popularity ratings, as Statista reports on 11 February 2025:

“In January 2025, the net favorability rating for the current British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, was -38 percent, compared with -25 percent for Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch.  Starmer's popularity has fallen considerably since taking office in July 2024, and as of the most recent month, was less popular than the Reform Party leader, Nigel Farage.”   [5]

“BLIND” POLITICIANS, “BLINDLY” FOLLOWING OTHERS

Starmer is following Blair closely, a man whose leadership and government, with Brown, assaulted and changed The British Constitution, negatively impacting British culture more than any previous leader.  This was deliberate, deceptive and intentional.  “Cool Britannia” was a wily slogan, with young, trendy female pop celebrities and others cashing in.

The tyranny of this regime was that minorities must be respected over the majority; being British, especially being a “white” male and, particularly, from the white, male working class, wouldn’t just put you at the back of the queue: you would cease to qualify for serious consideration as human.

Adding to this, uncontrolled mass immigration, multiculturalism that dictated all cultures are equal but that West was inferior, subservience to unelected, unaccountable European Union bureaucrats, combined to create a toxic environment in which democracy and free speech have been undermined. Fourteen years of Conservative rule merely continued the downward spiral, with Cameron modelling himself on Blair.

And Starmer has followed closely.

“In his quest to become Prime Minister Keir Starmer has positioned himself as the next Tony Blair, an “the heir to Blair” to use his own words. As well as working closely alongside the former prime minister, everything from his pledge cards to his broad policy positions, he is making himself in the mould of New Labour’s frontman.” [6]

REVISING RELIGION, HISTORY AND ART

Those who want to capture and control our language, to dictate how we should speak and, by extension, how we should think, are bent on undermining our national heritage and culture.  To justify their dogma and bigotry they must revise history, deny the evidence of art’s record through the ages and invert religion.

While The Bible, which as we have pointed out, is not a Western but a Middle Eastern text, is the source of the statement “the blind leading the blind” this also has been replayed in works of art, one of the most vivid being “The Blind Leading the BlindBlind”, or “The Parable of the Blind” (DutchDe parabel der blinden) is a painting by the Netherlandish Renaissance artist Pieter Bruegel the Elder, completed in 1568. Executed in distemper on linen canvas, it measures 86 cm × 154 cm (34 in × 61 in). It depicts the Biblical parable of the blind leading the blind from Matthew 15:14, and is in the collection of the Museo di Capodimonte in Naples, Italy. [7]

Those objecting to the usage of “the blind leading the blind” may wish to make direct contact with Museo di Capodimonte, an art museum located in the Palace of Capodimonte, a  grand  Bourbon palazzo in NaplesItaly designed by Giovanni Antonio Medrano. The museum is the prime repository of Neapolitan painting and decorative art, with several important works from other Italian schools of painting, and some important ancient Roman sculptures. It is one of the largest museums in Italy. [8]

CONCLUSION

Political Correctness and Required Speech should be seen for what they are: a censorious, undemocratic, anti-human rights overreach by the State, institutions and minority political and ideological interests.  The right to speak freely, to satirise, make fun of and even offend is part of free speech and it is a given that violence is excluded from this.

Take free speech away and our society backslides down the slippery road away from freedom and human rights.

The West’s downward slide indeed has begun.  It is time to wake up to this, apply the brakes and restore the freedoms and common sense that are fundamental to Western and British Values.

Time is short.
